Who this service is for
Start with a review if you have an IRS balance-due notice, cannot comfortably pay the full balance at once, have missing returns to address or need help understanding an existing arrangement. Bring the complete notice rather than just the amount due.
Payment options we help you review
- Short-term payment: eligible taxpayers can request up to 180 days to pay in full; no IRS setup fee applies, but interest and applicable penalties continue.
- Monthly installments: a longer agreement can spread payments over time. IRS fees depend on the method used, and low-income relief may apply.
- Simple Payment Plans: individuals generally qualify at an assessed balance of $50,000 or less, including tax, penalties and interest, with filing and payment requirements current. Business limits differ, particularly for trust fund taxes.
- Accounts needing further review: not qualifying for a Simple Payment Plan does not necessarily rule out another arrangement.
We explain the options to review and the records needed. A payment request does not erase your tax debt or guarantee IRS acceptance. Read our 2026 IRS payment plan guide for more detail.
How RnM Advisory helps
- Review: identify notices, tax years, deadlines, filing gaps and payments already made.
- Organize: prepare the relevant tax records and a practical income-and-expense picture.
- Discuss: compare a proposed monthly amount with your actual cash flow and review costs and obligations.
- Prepare: help with an appropriate request and explain the confirmation and follow-up records to retain.
Bring these records to your consultation
- Every page of your IRS notice and any prior agreement.
- Relevant returns, payment receipts and correspondence.
- A list of any returns you have not yet filed.
- A summary of regular income, essential expenses and other obligations.
Tell us about an urgent response date when you book. Ask how to share documents securely before sending personal or banking information.
When monthly payments need a closer look
If the proposed amount would crowd out essential expenses, raise that concern during the review. Our tax resolution services also discuss other options, including offers in compromise. We can review which path deserves consideration; the available outcome depends on your account and financial facts.
Frequently asked questions
Will a payment plan remove interest and penalties?
Interest and applicable penalties generally continue. Penalty relief is a separate review; see our penalty-abatement service and guide.
What if I still have missing tax returns?
Bring a list of the missing years. Filing compliance must be reviewed before choosing or requesting an arrangement.
Is the consultation the same as paying my taxes?
No. IRS tax payments go through official IRS payment channels. RnM Advisory service invoices are paid through your individual QuickBooks invoice email. Any paid engagement and its scope are discussed separately.
